Music Reflection: Marcus Miller – Preachers Kid

Listen to the song here

Imagine a painting which encompasses a child finding their place within a village, taking their place among their people. Choosing to make this place of rest their home, in the knowledge that they’ve been brought into this circle of love. Imagine this village to be situated in a microcosm of a city, the busy streets and noise calmed by this deep community that makes a scene of peace and rest in the midst of all the buzz. This is how this music resonates with me.

This song takes you on a journey, where you are called into a beautiful communion by the vocals at the start. The melodies lead you through the woods gently and take you to a clearing full of joyful expression.

The song develops following the chord progressions, full of passion leading you through rivers, bushes and thick foliage. Here in this mid section there is space for you to feel, to reflect deeply on life’s circumstance. For me it’s a recognition of the past and it’s harmony with the present.

The song concludes by bringing the voices back in from the introduction, and maybe if you listen well you will notice that they never really left. You were never really alone on this journey.

I pray you enjoy this song as much as I did. Truly a work of art, worthy of mulling over and allowing to speak. Do let me know in what ways you are spoken to in this, or in what ways it enables you to speak.

Much love,

Jerome
